Production Process

Thank you, the backer, once again for bringing this project to life. You've done your part; now it's time for me to do mine. This game is now my second successfully funded project. Before the Kickstarter ended, I made sure to set up production for success and rapid fulfilment. There's still quite a bit of work to finish in terms of the art (thanks to you for smashing so many stretch goals!), along with formatting it ready for printing. Still, already, I'm well underway to getting this game into your hands, and a month or so early for most of you!

Shipping Prices

Now onto more technical news, but essential nonetheless, I've completed the pledge manager set up. I can now tell you all what the prices of shipping are going to be depending on what pledge level you backed at.

(This will change depending on the weight of any additional items you add to your pledge in the pledge manager).

Food Time Battle in Space / FTBS + Become a Critic

  • UK - £4
  • EU - £10
  • US - £9
  • CA - £9
  • ROW - £9

Food Time Battle in Space x2

  • UK - £4
  • EU - £11.50
  • US - £10.80
  • CA - £10.80
  • ROW - £10.80

Food Time Battle in Space + Blockers: The Stacking Game

  • UK - £4
  • EU - £13.25
  • US - £13.00
  • CA - £13.00
  • ROW - £13.00

As you can see from these prices, we have some big wins and a couple of losses. The biggest win is that I've found a way to decrease shipping for US backers and ROW backers by 10% for Food Time Battle in Space and increase the speed at which I can achieve EU backers delivery. Still, by doing so, I've had to go for a shipping method that increases the cost depending on the weight rather than having a flat fee at a specific threshold. Because of this, for every additional copy of Food Time Battle in Space, and indeed, Blockers, it does increase the shipping costs slightly. It's never much more than the price indicated on the Kickstarter page for your specific region, or more at all for some of you, but it is notable. Of course, these new shipping prices go against the advertised promise of having a flat shipping fee for every pledge level, so I do apologize for that sincerely. For the next campaign, I will be able to go in with this knowledge to advertise the shipping prices more accurately. If any backer experiences a substantial change in shipping prices compared to the ones mentioned on the campaign page, please message me or call me via the backerkit helpline to sort it out. You always come first.

New Card Format

Now, let's bring it back to some more fun information. On the Discord server yesterday, I asked the Crab Studios community which version of the card layout they preferred with the critic's name added onto it.

Previously, I envisioned using the names just for a lore/world bible that would be available to read on my website. However, the community, you, the backer, have been so invested and interested in naming these characters and bringing them to life that it felt weird not to include them on the cards themselves. So here is how every card will be formatted after much deliberation and help from the Discord server; I hope you like it!

This is a screenshot from Photoshop because this card is formatted using CMYK, which means that it's formatted for printing, not digital distribution. So if I was to show you the CMYK version it would look really weird on your screen.

"Become a Critic" backers, please submit your pictures

Now that I have mentioned the critics, I want to ask every fantastic backer that pledged at the "Become a Critic" pledge to please submit your picture to the email address [email protected]. I have already private messaged you, but so far, I have only received 3/10 of the images I need. Thank you once again, and let's get this game finished together!

Thank you!

A final thank you for now to every backer that has messaged the Kickstarter account or the Crab Studios email to say congratulations and thank you. It does mean a lot to me that people appreciate the work I do, but let's not forget who it is that should be thanked, you. Without you, this game would not exist, so I do want to thank you for the final time in this update.

Sincerely,

Niall from Crab Studios

Thank you :) | Join the Backer Appreciation Live Stream Now | What's Next?
about 3 years ago – Tue, Mar 30, 2021 at 01:33:59 AM

Let me start this very significant update by saying thank you. Whilst on my walk earlier today, I made a short video encapsulating my feelings during the last few hours of the campaign, and you can watch it below. But this campaign isn't about the studio or me; it's about you. Thank you.

Join the Livestream by clicking here.

I will thank all of you individually during a Livestream which should be live now if you are reading this shortly after I post the update. I plan on being live from 5 pm to 6 pm BST. Come hang out with me, and I'll answer any questions you may have.

Critic Name Reveal

As with almost every update I have posted, it's time to find out the results from a previous critic name vote; thank you all for voting, and without further ado, here are the results...

To get more regular updates on the progress of Food Time Battle in Space, please join the Crab Studios discord here.

What's next?

A survey will be sent out to each of your email accounts, where you will have to fill out your shipping address and pay for shipping and add any add-ons you which to... well, add-on. After that, manufacturing on the games will begin, and we have estimates of a midsummer dispatch date for UK backers and slightly later for the rest of the backers. Of course, there will be more firm dates the closer we get to May and June. If there are any issues, you guys will be the first to know!

Once again, thank you so much. You, the backer, has made this all possible, and I am incredibly grateful for the community that this game has spawned. Let's keep going into the future, and let's make even more fantastic and more beautiful games together!

Thanks,

Niall from Crab Studios

New Critic from Ireland! (Vote on her name now!) | Unit Number Printed on Game Boxes? | 24 hours to go!
about 3 years ago – Sun, Mar 28, 2021 at 02:34:58 PM

Vote on her name now in the comments!

This critic here is a farmer from Ireland. Before moving to the moon, she specialised in regaining the great fall in total tillage use, nurturing crops like grain, root and flax. Needless to say, she's a bit of a green finger, so the greener the burger or taco, the better for this one.

Results from the previous vote!

Unit Numbers Printed on Boxes?

With 24 hours to go, I can say with a good amount of accuracy that I'm only going to be ordering 100 units from the manufacturer. If something remarkable happens and we get around £700 extra in funding in the last 24 hours, then I would be able to order 250 units. Either way, I have spoken with the manufacturer and it wouldn't be costly at all to include a unique unit number on each copy of Food Time Battle in Space. I really like this idea because I already feel that this game has been created by a really tight-knit community, and having it say on the box "1/100" or "43/100" or whatever, would just really cement that idea.

The boxes would be distributed indiscriminately, so anyone has the opportunity to get that 1/100, so I think that's an extra exciting element as well.

However, with anything with this project, I want YOUR input. Is this a good idea, do you want this on your box? Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks,

New Critic Reveal! | Free Stickers! | Stretch Goal Update! | Closest Vote Yet!!!
about 3 years ago – Fri, Mar 26, 2021 at 01:42:40 PM

New Critic! Vote on his name now!

Meet (_). He is a wheeling and dealing businessman who spends most of his 5-9 work day at the independent lunar stock market in New New York. Though on his lunch, he will nip over to Luna Burger or Mt. Zzarella for a quick bite, nothing too heavy, but a luxury ingredient will convince him to lend you some helpful tips to improve business.

It's a tie, so I put it to the Discord!

Meet Jorgi! Thank you to everyone that voted. Other than the Johnny and Jagger debacle a couple of weeks ago, this was the tensest vote yet. Unfortunately, there was no one to swoop in and break the tie this time. So after doing a quick survey from people in the Discord, Jorgi was mentioned the most so here we are! If you would like to join the Discord so you can keep updated then click here.

Quick Stretch Goal Update.

We are really close to getting that next stretch goal, which will add even more illustrations into the game, which means even more critics and even more variety! We are just 3 days off the campaign ending, however, so we all need to band together to make sure that we can get as many eyes on the campaign as possible!

  • Like updates
  • Comment on updates and the campaign
  • Share the campaign on social media
  • Talk about the campaign with friends

And most importantly, every single pound, euro, dollar or any other currency is super important to making this game the best it can be!

Free Stickers in every box!

As a thank you to everyone for being so amazing and getting us over the finish line so early, I decided to order in a bunch of Crab Studios stickers to put in each box of Food Time Battle in Space. It's just a little something that I thought would be a great way to show my appreciation without taking anything away from the game. (The sticker paper they are printed on is also really satisfying so have fun with that :)).

Thank you for reading this update,

Niall from Crab Studios

New Critic Reveal! Vote in the comments now! These names were picked with the help of the Crab Studios Discord community. Join by clicking here!

This critic is from the land of Russia. His diet is hearty, and his criticism is as cold as the icy tundra of his homeland. Don't let this beardy boy go without a name!

The results are in!

Meet Sabina, everyone! Thank you so much for voting on the last one. Don't forget to vote for the newly revealed critic as well as join the Discord to suggest names for the next critic!

Thanks,
