Yes, that's right! Langskip is now live on Kickstarter. However, if you are unfamiliar with what the next Crab Studios game is, let me give you a little run down.

Langskip is a 2-4 player bluffing game. On your turn, you can use the power of the gods to guide you through the four realms quicker than your opponents by playing one of the two cards in your hand face down. Still, the other players must choose whether to believe that you played the card you said or accuse you of mischief and reveal the card for everyone to see. If your accusation is successful, you gain a mischief token; if you lie successfully without being accused, you gain a mischief token. Mischief tokens are used to make Loki and his children stronger, giving you an even better chance of arriving at Asgard first.

Will you be mischievous, or will you keep everyone on the worthy path and reap the benefits of their ill deeds?

So now you know that Langskip is a Viking themed bluffing game, and you know its price, let's take a look at what reviewers have to say!

As you can see, the critics (not the ones currently berating your restaurants in your copies of Food Time Battle in Space) are loving Langskip! Head over to the Kickstarter page now to watch the trailer, look at the rules, and see more of the artwork up close!

Thank you once again for being the best community on Kickstarter, I really love our tight-knit bunch, so I hope we can keep making games together far into the future!

Thanks,

Production Progress #5 | All Games Have Been Dispatched | Important Duty Info | Production Quality | Unit Numbers | UK Games Expo & Langskip
almost 3 years ago – Thu, Jun 24, 2021 at 02:40:09 AM

To begin this update, I want to list a contents section as I wager it will be a long one. However, I will number each heading as well, so if you're going to skip to any particular part, you can easily.

  1. Current To-Do List.
  2. Picking up the Games.
  3. The Production Quality.
  4. Shipping the Games, Duty Information.
  5. Langskip & UKGE.
  6. Conclusion, for now.

1) Current To-Do List.

As you can see, there isn't much left to do now, and what is left is on the way to being completed. I'm thrilled to say that I met almost every deadline, and even if I didn't, by the end of it, I finished on time to be able to execute such a rapid fulfilment turnaround. This isn't just a one-off; this will continue for all future Crab Studios games.

2) Picking up the Games.

One of the fantastic things about manufacturing in the UK, other than all the obvious ones, is that you are always so close to the action. As stated in the Kickstarter trailer, I live just an hour away from Dice Sports LTD's factory. As the manufacturing was wrapping up, this fact leads me to the idea of actually going and picking up the games myself. It wasn't long, and I posted my journey on the Instagram page as I went, and when I got there, it was incredible to see where the games were made and who made them! I had some lovely chats with the folks over at Dice Sports LTD, and I'm delighted to continue to work with them in the future.

3) The Production Quality.

Wow. I am so happy with how Food Time Battle in Space ended up. The cards feel incredible, the box is so tiny, the game comes with a bag to put your tokens in, and the insert is sturdy but removable if you want to sleeve your cards; and due to the size of the box, sleeved cards will fit perfectly snug in there. There are only two minor negatives with the game that I will be upfront with now.

  • The box was much smaller than anticipated, so the graphic for the game stats (player count etc.) is readable, but barely.
  • The punchboard tokens themselves are acceptable, but because of how small the punchboards were, a small exit wound on the back makes it look a tad ugly at first glance. To reiterate, it doesn't affect the tokens themselves, just the punchboards.

4) Shipping the Games, Duty Information.

As you could see from the to-do list, dispatch is complete. Just today, I sent out the final UK copies and the EU copies (the US copies went out yesterday). Every international copy should arrive before any changes occur to the duty laws on board games under £20 in value. However, because Brexit is currently insanely unpredictable and there is a lot of misinformation being spread around if you do happen to get a duty charge, please contact me at [email protected]. I will either personally refund you or give you a free pledge equal to the same value for the next game. If it affects your decision, the latter would be better for the companies future. Thank you in advance for your understanding, and I appreciate it so much.

On top of that, some more light-hearted news, unit 1 of Food Time Battle in Space, has been boxed and sent out. I have no idea who to, but I hope they post about it all over social media as soon as they open the parcel! It was very tempting to give it to myself, but I thought a random allocation was better. So if you are interested, I ended up with unit 92.

5) Langskip & UKGE.

Finally, I just want to mention that my next game, Langskip, will be launching on July 30th at UK Games Expo. If you are going, say that you are a previous backer to me at the stall, and I'll see what I can do about a discount on any products we have there at the time :). We will be at UKGE from Friday until Sunday, and the campaign will launch on Friday. We will have Vikings visiting us and competitions being held and other fun stuff like that! So if you can't attend UKGE this year, then the bottom line for you is that my next game will be launching on July 30th; I'm very, very proud of it, and if you love Food Time Battle in Space, consider taking a look at Langskip when it launches :). 6) Conclusion, for now.

This, unless something goes wrong, will be the second-to-last update regarding Food Time Battle in Space. So if you decide you don't want to read the last update when you get your copy, then I would just like to say thank you so much for joining me on this journey, it has been incredible, and it's so odd to see the finish line when it's been so far away for so very long. I can't wait to see you again for the next one!

Thanks,

Niall from Crab Studios

Production Progress #4 | Manufacturing Almost Complete | SHIPPING to BEGIN SOON!
almost 3 years ago – Tue, Jun 01, 2021 at 03:03:28 PM

Hello, all you wonderful people! If you are based in the UK, then I am with you during this very dense heatwave. However, that hasn't slowed us down over here nor has it with the people over at Dice Sports LTD. Manufacturing is almost complete, but it wasn't without a few hiccups!

During the production of the punchboard tokens, the company outsourced to make those components actually went under. This, as you can imagine, was both unforeseeable and shocking. This caused us to have to look for an alternate solution, which in the end wasn't too troublesome. Thankfully, I embedded about an additional month into the already accelerated promise of dispatch, so we shall still make it on time without a hitch, probably sooner in fact! (This is only slightly sad for me because I wanted copies to start showing up on your doorstep before June began, but we are still doing quite well I think).

Shipping starts this month! That's right, even with the minor hitch, even with the pandemic, even with this being a Kickstarter, we will have all games in our hands within a week or two, and in your hands starting just a few days after. For some, it will take longer than that, but all games will be with every backer by August at the latest. It will be unlikely that you will personally get yours any later than mid-July, but as I have just recently experienced sending out review copies of my next game, shipping is unpredictable. For example, two copies arrived in the states weeks before they arrived in some countries in the EU!

To conclude, be excited, your games will be with you shortly.

Thanks,

Niall from Crab Studios

P.S.

We should have something very exciting to share with you on our social media pages when we get the games, stay tuned!

Production Progress #3 | Important Question for YOU | Pre-Production Complete | PnPs Sent Out | Pledge Manager Extended
almost 3 years ago – Mon, May 03, 2021 at 09:43:51 PM

Hello everyone, this is Niall and welcome back to another Kickstarter update. This post is a rapid-fire noticeboard of progress updates so let's keep it short and sweet. I also have an essential question I'd like to ask you all at the end of this update.

Full manufacturing has officially begun on Food Time Battle in Space, meaning that all 250 copies should be in my hands within six weeks. Hopefully, it will be less as we started production on the punchboard tokens a couple of weeks ago to speed up manufacturing.

Print and Plays are being sent out manually to every backer that pledged £5 or more to the campaign. Sorry for the delay with this one, but there were such issues with the original files, which needed updating to get them ready for a standard printer. Also, all pages are A4, as I figured that everyone, whether they have an A3 printer or not, can at least print in A4, whilst that cannot be said the same about A3.

I have decided to keep the pledge manager open until we are ready to ship out the games to the people (which is why that step has moved from pre-production to post-production on the to-do list). This practice is the norm for most Kickstarters. Still, as I am very unfamiliar with pledge managers, I decided to promise to close it, leaving me with the option to extend rather than closing it earlier than stated. All this means is that you can change your shipping address right up until we are ready to ship, so if you plan on moving, there are no worries about it ending up at the wrong place. On top of that, it also means our pre-order store for copies of the game remains open, so if you want to support the game and the company, then consider sharing a link with your friends or on your social media.

Finally, onto the important question, I have a new board game called Langskip that has finished development and is ready to be shared with the world. The planned launch date for the Kickstarter is late July to coincide with UKGE, which is nice because, by that time, everyone should have their copies of Food Time Battle in Space. Most should have played it for a good month at that point, but I wanted to ask whether you are okay with me talking about it on social media whilst you are still waiting for your copy of FTBS? I know many publishers have two or three games unfulfilled at any given time whilst they launch yet another game on Kickstarter, but I don't want to be like that. I'd much prefer you to have already the games you backed before I launch yet another one. However, for games to be successful, there needs to be a consistent and prolonged drive on social media, which would mean that I would start talking about and promoting Langskip on our platforms from around May 8th. Do you have an issue with this? And if so, why? I'd like to see if I could address all problems, and if not, maybe reconsider my strategy.

Thank you for reading this update; I hope you are getting excited about your copy of FTBS,

Thanks,

Niall from Crab Studios

Production Progress #2 | Pledge Manager Open and FAQ | Manufacturing has Begun | New Critics Come to Say Hi!
almost 3 years ago – Thu, Apr 15, 2021 at 04:26:55 PM

Progress Update

Hello and welcome to another update. Let's keep it brief and exciting. Progress is happening and happening fast.

  • The Kickstarter funds have been transferred over to my bank account.
  • The PLEDGE MANAGER has passed the smoke test and is NOW OPEN; check your emails if you haven't already. (Info about additional credit below).
  • Manufacturing has begun on the star tokens; they take about two weeks longer to be made than the rest of the game combined, so getting a head start on them is advantageous.
  • The artwork is 95% complete and shall be finalised within the next ten days.

Important info about additional credit.

If you have any additional credit in your backerkit checkout due to adding extra to your pledge during the campaign for additional copies of FTBS or add-ons, please go through checkout without touching that additional credit. I have made a note on your account that there should be extra copies of FTBS or add-ons added to your pledge and will be included in your parcel upon arrival. This will not be an issue for future campaigns; this is my first time using Backerkit, so I was unsure how they handled credit. Thank you for your understanding.
